Earth connections.

Post by speleobod »

Just had to feed a washer pipe under dash to fix jet after re-spray and now dash lights go out once ignition is turned on. Thet come back when switched off.. headlights rear lights etc. work but can't see speedo etc.

also n?s behind fuse board is a pair of spade terminal 'rosettes' . Are these earth terminals as I seem to have a pair of black earth wires coming from the rear of vehicle down the windscreen pillatr and not connected to anything. Tried touching them to earth to see if it helped dashlights bit didn't.

Any one got any ideas please??

the rosettes are certainly earth points. I had all sorts of problems when I forget to screw the rosette down to the chassis itself. There may be a couple of black wires but the majority of 0v wires on Vws are brown.

Thanks for that. Does anyone know what the 2 black wires are then?. They have got to be earth as they are twinned with red wires and return from the rear of vehicle. I thick and one not so thick!

these vans are about 20 years old - they could be anything, from anytime. I have done all my additional 12v wiring in red & black and have a couple of "spare" red wires going nowhere. I have connected all my 0v wires to chassis though. I think you either have to have a poke around to try and find the other end or take a chance and earth them.
