Replacing coolant pipe

I am thinking about replacing this part

I was just wondering if anyone has any tips regarding undoing the nuts and the likelyhood of any studs breaking?

Also I assume that it is best to drain the coolant out first otherwise it will be all over the floor?

I recently changed small pipe attached and it was a real pain. Some remove pulley for better access. I used a miniature 1/4" drive socket to release the nuts. Or cut down an old spanner. Drain down is required unless you have an alternative idea. Plus Gas it for a few days. Yet I doubt it will give problems as spigot is plastic. But why change? Is it leaking?

It just looked like a tiny crack was appearing where one of the bolts is. I think I will get the parts and replace it when I next change the coolant.

You can just see the cracks on my old one that had a slow leak. A bit of a faff without taking the pulley off but doable.

Do you use any sealant on the gasket when you replaced it?

Replaced gasket and a smear of blue sealant for belts and braces approach.
