Our son has poured the remains of a bottle (poss 2 pints?) of blue anti freeze into his Subaru Legacy which had pink stuff in it. The blue stuff was most likely Halfords from around 5-10 years ago and has been sitting in our garage ever since..
Is a total core meltdown just around the corner? I don't mind him ruining the rest of his car but that 3 litre flat six needs to be preserved for obvious reasons.

It'll forma a nasty gunge...I've done it myself by mistake previously, best to have it flushed and fresh G13 put in.

Ta, any idea how long the sludge takes to form....is flushing a 'do it over the weekend' job or something that can be left awhile?

It reacts pretty quickly. Makes a nasty sticky brown tar which needs a strong solvent to remove (petrol doesnt really work, brake cleaner is probably better)

Re: Mixing anti freeze moment of madness
I’m not sure if this will help but if it reacts to produce a gel-like sludge then you might be able to ‘back it up’ out of narrow passages by removing the pipes and running a water flow from a hose backwards through your heat exchangers and other areas where pipe diameters narrow.
I’ve seen it done with debris and rust using a ‘flush’ agent that was poured into the coolant beforehand but I don’t know what that would do about coolant admixes. Sorry.

Mabey it needs heat to react?

It was only the original OAT antifreezes that reacted, modern versions are mixable but it's not desirable.Cobra88 wrote:Yesterday i mixed half a litre of g13 and bluecol i have had for years
