Back to non-power steering

Post by Titus A Duxass »

Right, I want to ditch the power steering and go back to manual.

I need a shopping list:

1. Steering Rack with control arms and mounting bushes
2. Uprights - do I need different ones?
3. Is there anything else that I will need?

I didn't need to change my uprights when I changed from man to powered

Ooh that's interesting. I thought that the power steering set up has different uprights.
If it works one man to powered then it should work powered-man - in that case I just need a steering rack.

I think I have two manual uprights in the barn. I'll give them a once over when I'm back in October.

The uprights are different, the power steering has less lock than manual .
You shouldn’t need to change Paul .
Going the other way , manual to power I think maybe it’s to stop the rack going past the stop maybe ?

The 14" Syncro uprights are the same for manual and power steering. This is not the case for 2WD where, if I recall correctly, there are different uprights for manual non-ABS, power steering non-ABS, manual ABS and power steering ABS.

Can I ask paul. Why are you ditching power steering?

Plus: early twin-pot calipers or later single piston sliding caliper.

Got to ask why anyone would ditch PAS?

Manual is 4.75 turns lock to lock
PAS is ~3.8 turns LTL

I just don't like the lack of feel. I much prefer the direct feedback that I had with the manual set up.

Fair enough mate. I much prefer power steering myself.
