Alternator wiring
Ok peeps i`ve got a disconnected black/red wire it comes out of the loom with the blue exciter warning lamp wire should this black/red be connected to d+ with the blue exciter terminal on alternator.

Black/red is normally brake lamps wiring. But what engine and year is it?

Hi bigherb it was a a 1.7ky just changed to 1.6 jx van is a 1988 the wire is the same gauge as the blue excite wire ,when I put the avo to it I get a reading of .2v with engine off and about 6/7v with engine running.

Then I think you mean red/black, which connects to the W terminal in the back of the alternator for the RPM signal.

Thanks for reply bigherb so would this still connect to the w terminal even though the van hasn't got a rev counter.

Yes, It works the oil light buzzer.
