Hi guys.
My bus has been sat for around 8 months and I'm ready to get it going again finally.
With it being stood so long, is there anything special I should do before starting it? It rattles like crazy for the first 20 minutes at the best of times when it's been stood a week.
I think you should disable the spark by however you choose, and crank it over For a while to spread some oil around and get things loose.. before reconnecting the spark. Not sure what else! Check the oil level?
I would just start it normally so long as the battery has a decent charge, there's not much to do about getting the tappets full of oil, many cars have the same issue.
It may take some time for fuel to appear on a carb vehicle anyway

1990 RHD 1.9 Auto Sleeper with DF/DG engine
lets be honest here, 8 months is no different to three weeks once the oil has all dropped to the bottom
it wont start before its spun anyway . as long as its not been submerged for weeks i would think its going to be fine, just rattly
When I start mine after winter lay up I firstly charge the battery to give a good chance. Then turn it over until the oil light goes out. Then press throttle to operate choke, remove air filter and put a bit of fuel straight in carb. Then without touching the throttle pedal turn the key and let it idle to get fuel through. Has worked for me for 10 years plus. Good luck.
Firstly charge the battery so it's got enough to crank, if been standing for 8 months crank it up and oil should get around ok, though naturally as poster says you will get the tappet rattle, happens to us all!
Are you taking it out for a run? If so brakes could be a concern re sticking etc, these vans don't like long lay up's!
