T25 not starting after long journey!

Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

T25 not starting after long journey!

Post by Mr Jobs »

Hi hoping I can get some advice and troubleshoot potential issues :D

1.9 1984 Petrol T25 just done a 700 mile round trip to Cornwall and back without any issues and now after a day on the drive back home it wont start :(

Was low on fuel and parked on a hill thought maybe no fuel running through but topped up with 5L and still wont start.

Battery seems fine wipers/stereo/internal lights working and ignition noise/turning over when turn key but engine not firing up. Had a full service and inspection at Jacks Garage beforehand and was all tweaked and ready for the road so no idea what the problem is

Worried as thought water was topped up and just looked and is below the min line so might have done a fair bit of the return journey Cornwall-London without water tank topped but there was no cooking/overheating/smell on journey back

Thoughts and comments most welcome :)

First thing i would do is see if fuel is getting pumped through. Then check you've got a spark.

Its just had a completely new cooling system installed including new radiator, fuel tank and fuel lines.

I can see fuel in lines under near-side and in engine..

Do you still have a manual pump? You can pull the pipe off that goes to the carb, put the end in a bottle and turn it over to see if it's working. If it is I would then check that you have a spark.

Have you got clear fuel lines or can you see fuel in the filter?

the fuel filter underneath the nearside by petrol tank has fuel in and fully loaded, filter and lines.

Actually on inspection the fuel filter in the engine bay looks like its only about 25% full of fuel, not full - the filter bit doesn't appear to have any fuel in and there is some in the pipes but not loads..

There shouldn’t be a fuel filter in the engine bay ! This was done by a so called expert ????
Why would anyone think it’s a good idea to have a egg cup full of petrol in a plastic container just next to the spark plug leads and exhaust ?? Beyond belief!

.
Put some pics up. It probably is a fuel filter, you'd be surprised at the amount of people who get a van with one in the engine bay  You'll have one after the tank( off side ) and maybe one on the return (nearside ).
