Anyway, 0.1mm is good, so unlikely that crank end play was the cause of the oil leak. Need to consider other causes.

have you given it a good hard push, often more movement there than you think, it moves when the clutch presses on it so quite a bit of force involved.

this messes up the measurement I lock mine so it won't rotate.

Yes I gave it a good push and pull
Even tried levering it and clouting it

I can see this ticking lifter is going to bug me.
When I looked at the adjustment screw contact face, it's clearly bugged somebody else, signs of it pounding the valve is evident.
Compared to the rest the screw is in a couple of mm further.
I'm going to undo the screw and leave it over night in an effort to fully expand it.
If it doesn't move then I think I have a bad lifter.

This is when you wished you had fitted a set of telescopic push rod tubes.
Yes you can crush one out but a having them fited makes the job so much easier.

what cylinder?, 3&4 with standard late exhaust is tight to get the push rods out, particularly 4

Yes I will get a set of tubes.
Inlet #4 has the hammered adjuster.
Although when Im underneath the sound is more to 1&2

So I'm going to do what CJ did and let them all relax over two nights.
Reset to 0 lash and drive them for 30 mins

If this doesn't work I'll be KS ing

Bought 4 and four tubes for now.
If this last effort does not work I'll use them.

Well I'll be darned

Tick gone, knitting needles installed.

I did two things.
1, backed the #4 inlet lifter to zero lash
Left it overnight.
2, changed the oil to 15w/40

Cancelled the Brickwerks order.
Thank you all very much.

PS I also reset the lpg, and that too has improved the performance astoundingly!

Good news, though now you'll never know if it was the switch to mineral or the lash adjustment that fixed the problem
