Changing Porka rims
Hi Folks.
I currently have a set of 17" Cayenne Alloys ( I can't recall the tyre sizes) on my van, and I am literally a gnats chuff away from being able to get the van in my garage.
I currently have -50mm springs on there and the van rides lovely, but I do need an extra inch (maybe more if I can get it) of clearance.
Rather than the expense changing the up/over door to a pair of side openers, or lowering further with the use of -70mm springs my thoughts have turned to changing the wheels.
I can't run to the expense of air or juice, as the money I had from the sale of my Early Bay bought this van, and the rest was swallowed up by the wife to pay towards our loft conversion.
I have found some Porka rims that are 16" in dia and running 195/45 16's on there.
The front two are 7J and have an ET of 65
The rear two are 8J and have an ET of 52.3
Am I going to run in to any difficulties bolting these on?

Do you have adapters for them?

Yes, I have the adaptors already as I'm running the 5x130 17" Porsche Cayenne alloy wheels.

Re: Changing Porka rims
Dropping an inch on rim size will only give you half the rim size - 12.5mm
..plus maybe a little bit more if the tyres are narrower or lower profile
You really need to check your current offsets, they're probably around ET53 currently and T25's should ideally be between ET30 to ET40, you haven't said if you are using spacers.
Go back to standard wheels, might not look as nice, but it'll go in the garage and steering geometry will be right

Re: Changing Porka rims
Yeah I get that dropping an inch will only actually give me 1/2" drop.
I am pretty sure though I will pick up the other 1/2" in tyre wall as the profile is higher, and the overall tyre is slightly wider than those I plan to fit.
I have adaptors so the rims will be spaced.
I may go back to stock wheels, but I prefer the look of a T3 on Porka alloys

Re: Changing Porka rims
OK, spotted that they are running 195/45, that's going to give you something like 68mm less on the sidewall, but if you are intending to use those tyres are they the right load rating. I doubt they are commercial rated tyres either.

Load ratings etc is something I will also be checking.
First job is to see if it will theoretically get me to the overall vehicle height I'm after.

Re: Changing Porka rims
I got the 928 wheels. They gad extra load tyres on, but unfortunately when I fitted them the arch gap was enormous, and the van, quite frankly looked ridiculous! It needs lowering another 2inches, maybe more. And that's one of the reasons I flogged my T2a, I had to plan how to get places because it was so low.
So I've advertised them and decided to put the Cayennes back on. And I think I've sold the 928s already.
I'm going to put side opening doors on the garage instead.

Re: Changing Porka rims
Dunno. I only changed one side to see how it looked. Didn't like it so changed it back.
