I have made an enquiry for a small number of new cams, made from EN40B steel. They won't break like iron ones!
I have a NOS DJ cam on the shelf as a profile/timing reference, as well as my own "modern" road profile that I use on the 2.5's

Now does this read 086, 087 or 280 (degrees) ?

To my way of thinking it is 086 - all the numbers have been gone over twice except the 7/2

I have been told that the 280 degree cam is N spec, so I guess that settles that.

Not sure what to make of the rear main bearing, also been told that there are 21 or 22mm versions of the early flanged type.
Not my area so may need a little help and guidance to sift through the info/myths.
This looks like 20.5 to me, could be a worn 21 after the thrust bearing carnage?
Crank is pushed hard against the bearing flange.

Postman brought me some MRB stainless steel goodness! Far less than a cut n shut job on 2 sets of wbx parts, well chuffed because this stuff was made as a limited run afaik

I should say that the "six" waterjacket seals are so rare that they make hen's teeth, rocking horse poo and unobtanium look like supermarket shelf filler items.
To be offered a pair is a miracle.

Rear main bearing news: looks like this case was originally machined to take the long, long-gone 20.5mm flanged bearing, hence all the modifications.
The 21mm is available, so it will have to get a thin "piston ring" shim behind an unmachined one, to put things right.

But, I'm not sure if 025... thick wall shells are available in oversizes or what supply is like at all
So the case may need to be machined across the mating faces and line-bored back to standard size (including the cam bore)

I just measured my bearing from "Unknown"

21mm bearing with 2.45mm flanges so total 25.9mm, just done with vernier calipers rather than mic.

The edge of the 7.2mm drilling for the oilway is offset 10mm from the outside/flywheel edge, 8.7mm from the other.

Just posting in case the info is of help with deciding how to use a 21mm bearing - I had never even heard of a 20.5mm size

non flanged/ later bearing- 025 501D is 19.65mm if that helps.
thrust washers 025 635 are 2.4mm each.

Info came from a very knowledgeable source, the man knows his flat fours, no question. Builds a nice turbo motor
I need to find out if early thick-wall wbx bearings are available in oversizes or not.
Steep learning curve with these early details.

No problem, I assume you're talking to MM. I was more demonstrating my ignorance than claiming knowledge

I've had a look around using the links form my Unknown thread. Managed to find some 0.75mm oversize (on the crank) at a bargain price of €13.67 https://www.ksmotorshop.com/article-det ... 025105579#, but I assume you are thinking of oversize for the case ?

Have you even checked the crank journals yet ?

I have only given the mains a quick glance: a little white metal pick-up on the middle two (will polish off) but no scoring, havent removed the rods or even lifted the crank yet!

I did a similar thing for a friend with a 944. I was busy telling him "don't worry, oversize bearings aren't much different price wise to standard". How wrong was I

Didn't find any oversize case bearings when I looked on KS, nor a reference to any, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

I think that I will have to have the tunnel bored +0.5mm and use diameter Aircooled oversize bearings (from Limebug) but the rear main and thrust is going to take a bit of work.
May well have to bore that one out further, make some sort of bearing carrier and use the later thrust arrangement.

Have you actually found a reason why it needs to be line bored - the only thing I have seen is the problem on number 1 due to bearing width and it seemed to have a relatively simple potential solution using an original 21mm one piece bearing. That's why I posted the measurements as I assumed you would need to work out where the additional bearing width would have to be accommodated
