Overheating
I have a 1.9 watercooled engine recon 20000 miles ago but has started overheating immediately after starting engine the last couple of days. i'm not very technical at all and starting to worry now that it's a big problem . got booked into garage in few days but wondered if anyone could give me any advice in advance. cheers for any help

If there's not air in the system (checkout bleeding the cooling system via the rad bleed in the Wiki), then as above, thermostat could be the culprit, depending on type.
If there's air in the system and it keeps coming back, then could be head gasket. The garge will presumably pressure check and sniff the water for signs of CO

we had htis problem when we first got the van. the previous owner had put the wrong coolant in. eventually this had led to a build up of a sandy type residue in one of the pipes, thus causing a block and hence overheating. worth checking you have right coolant in and no blocked pipes etc.... we cleared ours with a wire coathanger.... well, steve shaw did it actually
