Well I've decided it's time to start tackling some of the rust issues on my van. I'm starting with the nearside B-Pillar and wing and see how it goes from there.
This is how the pillar looks after I have cut it open. Thankfully not as bad as i had feared. The inner is holed at both bottom corners and at the side of the strengthening plate, there is also a hole facing the sliding door.
Starting to cut out the rot.

Oh dear, I'm sorry, you might have been better waiting until I knew what I was doing.
Looks like there's a bit of a Scottish B post thing going on at the moment, you me & RogetT. I know I'm Northern England, but the van came from Kilmarnock, so it's been subject to the same air.

And us in Dunoon! Finished the offside B post/wing/sill/floor/cab step/ most other stuff (!) on Friday, moved to the nearside yesterday. As before, Vinnie has done his usual trick of lulling me into a false sense of security by suggesting he just had a few holes in the wing and usual place behind the vent tank. Mmmmmmm, much rebuilding of the B post so far, and more to come tomorrow!!

I see the OP has got flickr working, some really good photos, and a decent looking B post which shows the reinforcing piece that should be there. First time I have seen one.
How thick is the reinforcing plate, 3mm, it looks quite thick and was it fixed with just a couple of spot welds ??

Thought I would update my progress. Managed to get a few hours to myself yesterday so set about fabricating a patch. I made it in 3 sections which I welded together.
With the strengthener added. I made a pigs ear of welding it in. I plug welded from the back but couldn't get enough heat penetration. i'll grind back the weld and try tidy it up a bit before I weld it in.
