Post by retroman »

when i start my T25,it turns over really slow :cry:Also after driving.
i have put a new battery on and have been told"faithfully"that there
is no such thing as a slow starter.i have not had the camper long
and i`m learning all the time,so if anybody can help i would be

i'm told that a "slow"or "lazy" starter means that the field coils ,thats the coils around the outside of the bit that turns ,have broken down,so I would say a new starter is the way to go.there is nothing worse than wondering it it will start or not.

You can indeed get 'slow' or weak starters for the reason given above. However its well worth disconnecting the battery, crawling underneath and giving the cables (particularly the earth) a good clean. Sandpaper, wire brush etc. Other less likely causes are a worn starter motor bush (although a little grease on the starter motor tip often solves that).

If after doing the above (and make sure battery earth is sound as well as battery connections), just get a new starter and replace the bush too. If its giving trouble now it'll die on you in the winter months when all starters tend to give up the ghost for good.

E D I T: Ask any T25 VW mechanic. Winter months are dead batteries, dead alternators, dead starters and heating not working.
