Trouble starting warm diesel engine

Post by Hermen »

Just got back from first epic trip from Bournemouth to Aberdeen. Van drove a treat.

The only problem was, that after each stop we made (1 hour) the van would take a few attempts to start. This has also started after short journeys. Furthermore I am occasionally getting a large plume of smoke after setting off again with warm engine. I do not have any problem starting or smoke on the first start of the day and other than that the van is driving beautifully

cheers

Blue or black smoke?

Do you wait for the glo-plugs light to go out when hot or not?

Does it use much oil?

Yes, wait till glo plugs go out and smoke is black.

Not used much oil on 1250mile trip (1/2 litre)
