Wrong tin and heat shield on exhaust fouls the mounting bars. Me and this late exhaust system have fallen out.

Not sure you can get the tin on after silencer is on and you need to tin.

Exhaust straps go under exhaust not over. Makes sense, should you replace rear box - when straps removed box would fall away. It's all new to me!

late 1.9 DG heat shield, same as 2.1

maybe early 1.9 is different

Yes. Early don't need the slots in the tin as the engine mounting bar doesn't have exhaust brackets.

+New connector wired into alternator.
+Extended stud on solenoid as it was too short for alternator feed.
+Cut early tin to fit late model and painted it.
+Distributor fitted.
+Gearbox oil topped up.
+Wired a few earths in.
-Clutch slave, carb., engine oil and water (anti-freeze after first check) then I'll be checking compression up and firing it up...hope...

Need to set the dizzy to an approx TDC setting, gear could be in any of 12 positions so you can't copy another engine.

Well, Mar-tin has finally got his tin wear on!
Took a few attempts but did my best to make this early tin fit. I need a tailpipe for the exhaust, nice and straight for a side exhaust me thinks.
