5 speed gearbox went bang
Hi something went bang on my way home earlier, was in 5th doing 45ish so pulled over and had a look under.. nothing fallen off or loose but couldnt get reverse . Got her home and just managed to find reverse enough to get back end on ramps but is now stuck in reverse. 1st was pretty difficult as well which is directly back from reverse. Not a gearbox expert but thinking the 'bang' was a synchro gear breaking off maybe? Anyway probably needs a stripdown?

Re: 5 speed gearbox went bang
i dont think its pinion/bearing wear as there was no noise from the box or problems with 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th the rest of the way home

Re: 5 speed gearbox went bang
My post was to direct you to the diagram more than suggesting the pinion bearing problem. Also I found the description of how things work inside the box very enlightening.
Good luck with you problem I hope it gets sorted OK
