Radius Rod measurement help required!

Post by Karmannkabb »

Help required!

Just changed the radius rod bushes on my 1990 Westy Vanagon (pop top).

Thought I'd give them a clean up & repaint as they were in excellent condition.

Took the measurements on both sides & put them in a safe place for future reference.

Now cannot find the bit of paper I wrote them on! What a numpty!

Can anybody help me out by crawling under their poptop Westy & taking the measurements?

Basically I am after the LHS radius rod measurement from the end of the threads to the edge of the outer nut. Think it's measurement 'A' in the Bentley manual.

It is going for front end setting up & realigned.

Just want to get it somewhere near so it's driveable.

If it's any help my left and right were the same, so reading your post you ask for LHS. Do you have RHS? If the van is straight, it may be good enough.

In future make the note on your phone, or photograph the note or the measurements, I've lost so many important notes over the years, my kids taught me this trick! I'm afraid I recently deleted the note of the radius rod measurements, and anyway I've absolutely no idea if it was set correctly in the first place :rofl

Good luck...

I got exactly 321 mm when I did mine but I may not have been measuring at the same points as you.
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

just put together with the same length of rod sticking out of the outer nut. Just about a few threads.

Back home, I get 358mm from the Large washer behind the rubber bush, to the edge of the lower arm where the radius rod screws into it.

With the caveat that I've no idea if it's set correctly...
