Clutch slipping

Guys just returned from a weekend festival .I noticed when i was about 60 miles from home the clutch just wasnt there for 5 mins then it returned and went again.I got hgome ok without any bother and no slipping occured again.Upon furthur reading i learned that it could have beeen the heat of the enging that can make the clutch drop out or slip like that.I am wondering if i need a replacment clutch fitted before it goes completely sometime?..any info is appreciated ....thanks

Have you bled the clutch at all ? I've had a similar thing happen years ago when the clutch got hot ... maybe the fluid is ready for a change ... this should be done every few years anyway as the Dot4 fluid is hydroscopic and absorbs water.

Thanks for the reply Ian ..That was very helpfull and knowledgeable ..I will have it looked at asap..Have you any idea as to how much clutch fluid the engine holds?

The clutch and braking system probably holds about 1.5 litres in total ... obviously all the brake caliper and wheel cylinder nipples and the clutch slave cylinder nipple will have to be undone to empty and bleed the system back up again so unless they've all be undone recently I'd start to feed them with penetrating spray a few days before you plan to do the job. If you don't know what you're doing this is a job for a garage. We don't want to have a flying visit from Captain "cock"-up now do we

I did have the brake fluid changed completely a few months ago ..
