Hi, I've been looking at T25 gear lever quick shift kits, has any club members fitted one, and would they recommend fitting a kit.
My gearshift is fine but I do fancy reducing the travel of the gearstick.
I would welcome any feedback.

Got it from Brickwerks. Easy to install (i can do it), and a good price. Comes with detailed instructions. Initially after doing it the difference was amazing. Time being such a strange thing now I have had it for a while, it feels like it was before. It would be strange to go back to how it was before, traveling so far from first to second
Got to admit that my five speed gear change does entail a fair amount of pudding stirring and gives me a bit of discomfort in my shoulder particularly when moving it over to the right. If the short change kit simply moves the fulcrum up the stick a bit then unless I have it wrong surely it must reduce the velocity ratio and, all things being equal, reduce the mechanical advantage. So requiring more effort. Is this so?
I have to admit that the inspection and possible adjustment/refurbishment of the linkages is a couple of jobs away.

The 5-speed lever detent is a nasty affair. I have a prototype on test which will reduce the throw but also put the neutral positon of the lever in the 2/3 plane, with spring bias to either side, still push down for reverse i.e. more like any other VW car.

Yes. This is also a method of shocking the would be Fangio's in their fast hatchbacks by an apparent slow start which as the second gear gets a hold, leaves them for cold as they change out of first gear into second.
Not that yours truly would do such a dastardly trick

I fitted a t3volution short shifter kit to my 5sp van. Very easy to fit (10 minutes - see here https://vwt25.blog/2016/05/31/short-shift-kit/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and really improved the gear change - much quicker 1st into 2nd by virtue of the shorter distance that gear lever has to move. Trade off is slightly more effort to push against detente to get into 1st / reverse.
