Advice..240v elects. Non VW

Post by kentishvanman »

Hi,
Just fitted new 1HP motor to my band saw but the cable from the NVR switch has 4 wires, brown/blue/earth and black.
Where does the black one go?
Wiring diag with motor is for 3 core.
Any 'sparks' out there can help please or have I got to buy a new switch.
Thanks
PS Wiring is brown/blue etc not red as I originally put. it's single phase 240v. Sorry for misinformation.

red blue black could be three phase ( 400V) without neutral
240v between each phase

be careful, 240V bites, 400V can kill you

Sounds like old continental 3 phase, brown L1, Black L2, Blue L3.
I've installed a couple of Italian tyre changing machines with those colours.

If is a single phase motor it might be for the starting capacitor.

Yep I was working along those lines last night. The machine was made for both 3 and single phase and has/had a separate capacitator. There were 3 wires from power supply to switch and the 4 wires from nvr switch to motor.

Anyway the new motor has a permanent cap. and I have ordered a new switch.
Thanks.

Hi,

The old motor was a 2 pole single phase .75kw 1 hp one.
The new one the same, capacitator run.
Problem now solved, almost, have to re-drill the mounting plate and fit a new switch. I can then saw big bits of wood into smaller bits and then join the bits together again.
Thanks for input one and all.

Bit like what I like to do, glue 4 bits of wood together, turn it on the lathe, cut it back into 4 and turn it inside out then glue it back together and turn it on the lathe again!
