OOI where should the non return valve be fitted ideally? Had this problem a lot this year but by the looks of it I was a bit heavy handed on how much petrol to put down the carb

The original owner had a new electrical fuel pump fitted but the garage has put it on the right hand side of the engine bay in the wrong place. It is not attatched to anything so we will move it to its correct location.

After recent similar issues myself, turned out to be a worn fuel pump rod, I am wondering what the actual throw of the rod should be, is it possible that there could be wear in the cam as well as the rod.
