Please look at my pipe!
Hi all
My DJ engine has a previous dodgy-looking repair on a coolant pipe. I think it goes from waterpump to thermostat housing. Its a large pipe that runs front to back along the left side of the engine as you face forward, marked in red:

I want to replace it before it fails on me, and think ive identified this as the correct part:

yes the Brickwerks link is right.
While you are at it check the condition of the two metal pipes with joiner behind crank pulley, often rotten too and you can buy stainless replacements from Brickwerks too.
Dont forget you will need the o ring under related products bottom of page.

There is also the flange under alternator, was plastic on my 88 DG, I rellaced with metal as it broke but again in steel they can rust through easily, available in stainless.

And another thing as you are doing preventative maintenance... those petrol pipes have crimped clips indicating origional 28 years old, just replaced mine (also 89) and while in good condition they were starting to crack at ends
Have a think about changing to 100% ethnol type Brickwerks stock and loose that plastic bulkhead joiner, again Brickwerks stock a stainless one.
Then get underneath and check the fuel filter and pipes to tank

Correct me if I'm wrong Paul but the Brickwerks fuel pipe that comes as a kit does away with the bulkhead joiner, it just slips through a grommet and continues to the carb. I ought to know as I did mine a couple of years ago!!!
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

DG does not have this joiner
I doubt brickwerks does away with it on a DJ
its there to keep the pipe angled down away from the air trunking which is moving with the engine.

Oh, of course, I forget you're in the same club as Johhny 2 Jags! I did wonder why I hadn't encountered the joiner. Ta.

Ok so itchyfeet, this is great, but can i check that i've kept up? As well as re-doing all the fuel lines, and the pipe that runs from thermostat to water pump (& o ring) as already clarified, I should consider changing the following additional pipes for stainless steel ones as follows:

yes they are all the right ones, gasket needed on pipe behind pulley same as flange under alternator
all starting to add up but if you want piece of mind these pipes are now usually old and waiting to spring a leak, it's your choice.
and to complete the swap to stainless...
these are often not as rusty as they get very hot by engine but hard to inspect for rust

I'm howling for so many reasons. Mainly because we know I have a terrible memory and yours is great, it speaks volumes when you had to remind me that I have a 2nd van!!!
