Snapped exhaust hanger and split muffler

I reversed into a low bollard. Until someone pointed it out to me today I hadn't noticed that the hanger had snapped. Can anyone give me an idea on how to best secure the exhaust backbox. Its a Speedshop SS I think

That happend on mine.

I had to go and get it welded on from Pro Speed Exhausts (Cardiff) as a normal weld wouldnt work on Stainless.

Shouldnt be much if you know a stainless Exhaust place by you

You need to get the hole in the pipe welded up also. I am surprised that a clamp wasn't used there rather than a weld as it has just cracked the pipe open. Welds in stainless tend to do that especially with two differing types of stainless as appears to be there - if that pipe is even supposed to be stainless.

I hadn't noticed that crack . I'm wondering whether I can use epoxy in the split and use exhaust bandage to attach the back box to the pipe as a stop gap to stop the muffler moving around so much.
Can anyone tell me if a different muffler could fit on and a new hanger fitted somewhere else?

you can mig weld stainless steel although the weld will rust,but its not seen.

I've been in contact with Speedshop and they're saying the same, mig weld it with steel wire. The muffler is mullered though. THey sad I need to o it quickly as the muffler is in danger of shearing off

Make sure you disconnect the battery as it can fry the alternator if it's not disconnected,I believe.

I would stick weld that break - use stainless stick as well. I stick welded my stainless rudder up and no sign of rust on the welds. I mig stainless also with stainless wire and the weld doesn't rust.

I do agree buddy I do the same weld stainless with stainless wire but if you got a hobby mig with steel wire this is a quick fix.

Got under and had a good look. I couldn't get a small needle into the split in the pipe so it must be very fine. The muffler has had it - the weld on the LH edge of the can has split away for two thirds of the circumference. Need to get another muffler and work out how to hang it.

Ain't that the truth! In six months or so I've had new gearbox, jacking point, calipers, Exhaust, new trailing arm which I haven't fitted yet because I keep having to lash out on other things. The annoying thing is I don;t think all this expense will have added anything to the value.

Replacement muffler from Speed shop would be £165 and the hanger would still need welding so I'm getting Longlife in Carshalton to supply and fit.

Got it fitted today. Having had both now I'd say that the note from the Speed Shop is better, smooth but sounding purposeful. The Longlife is OK once the van has got going but raucous and a bit tinny accelerating at low speed
