Chrome bumpers
Has anyone got any experience/views on the repro chrome bumpers. Looking to get a set (want the more expensive thicker chrome) not the sunny climate ones. I know they will be nowhere near as good as German originals but I will never find a good set of those for sale.
Any problems with fitting or?
Many thanks

Re: Chrome bumpers
No info on Chrome, but word of advise. I bought a rear bumper from JK's (yeah, I know, but I was young and foolish) and the mounting holes weren't evenly spaced to the centre line. Had a right job, getting it mounted. Worth checking before you try to attach them to he van.

Re: Chrome bumpers
Didn't know you could get them, got a link?
I made a set of repro chrome hub caps last 10 years and they still looked good, needed to polish twice a year to keep the rust spots at bay, once a stone hits you have a rust entry point.
yep holes often are. ot great but you can file to fit.

oh yes, £375 for the pair, I guess the rubbing strip is needed or you have holes so add another £100
So with delivery £500, think I will keep the stock ones

Re: Chrome bumpers
I did talk to a local chroming shop that does triple-chroming which is what they recommended for longevity. Price worked out at £250 per bumper. Personally, I don't think chrome bumpers should be put on anything other than a Caravelle which is where they belong, along with chrome infills around the windows. Its a distinct model. Good rear bumpers are practically non-existent now.

Re: Chrome bumpers
Damn heavy chrome on my bumpers and despite all the bends and dents still not a single spot of rust. If money were no object I would go for original ones, I am sure that mine will outlast the van.

Re: Chrome bumpers
So the brickwerks ones really big themselves up, claiming to fit better than others, I thought they would just be the same as the jk 'high quality' ones. Anyone know any different?

Re: Chrome bumpers
Aye, read JK's small print: "Please Note: These are finished in show quality chrome, and will need cleaning to keep them looking their best."
Thats why BW ones twice the price. Mind you, I've wanted a quality rear bumper for my Caravelle for years but can't justify the expense. Its almost what I paid for entire vehicle. It was more the dings that spoiled it so I got two lumps of wood and a lump hammer and straightened it! Barely notice any dings now
