Slave cylinder copper pipe.

Post by pleasestartnow »

HI all, might seem like a silly question but i am about to change the slave cylinder on the van. I put the spanner on the connection from the copper pipe coming into the slave and literally as soon as i touched it the pipe fell off leaving the fitting in the slave :O. All i can think of is that since the copper pipe and the hose its connected to are not rigid, then all the movement has over time has sheared the copper pipe. Lucky it didn't fall out before!

Anyway back to the issue, since the copper pipe has sheared at the slave should i just by a new fitting and fit it to the pipe? if so how? or should i order a replacement pipe and if so is there a different material than copper i can use to prevent shearing in the future?

Thanks again for any help!!!

I might be in a similar situation after the summer, my clutch pipe is badly corroded at the front and needs replacing and the slave is rusty as well. Look at this Brickwerks page and the ones after it, plenty of fittings and such on there. There's a clutch repair pipe there which I'll probably fit but that has a nipple at one end and a straight coupling to join to the pipe. Good luck !

Copper / Nickel is the material for quality pipes. The pipe that sheared off is available with fittings from Brickwerks.

Cheers for the replies lad, only getting back around to things now.

I have looked at those kits on Brickwerks but they are two long, they are 7.5 meters of piping and i only need a small bit. I took a picture so people can see what i mean.

You can see the sheared off bit to

You need to state what year van you have. If you have a 85 onwards van you can fit the 615mm rubber pipe that fits onto the long metal pipe that runs under the van , if you have an early van, brickwerks sell the short metal pipe that fits on the rubber pipe you have on your van.

Oh sorry forgot that, 1990 1.6 Jx non turbo diesel.

Ya i saw that 615mm pipe, its not long enough to reach up into the slave, that 615mm pipe is already there and was connected into the copper pipe that went into the slave. It lashing rain now so i cant get a picture of it.

If you have a rubber pipe that will not reach the slave, its not the long version. There are 2 types of rubber pipe. The short one is for connecting to a metal pipe which connects to the slave. The long version will connect onto long metal pipe that goes through the chassis crossmember and the other end onto the slave .

Thats the quality version of the long rubber pipe that they also sell. If you scroll down under that pipe is the cheaper one.
