Or shave the corners off the box spanner
Or grind a socket down

Both far more sensible ideas than mine

My box spanners arrived today, but the 19mm wouldn't fit in the sump recess, and the 18mm at the other end would have needed a 23mm socket over it to use a torque wrench - my socket set jumps from 22mm to 24mm of course.

So a few minutes with a bench grinder fixed both problems. It's now an easy fit in the sump recess, and a 22mm socket fits snuggly at the other end.
