Hi All, Many thanks for all the input. Will be ordering the VDO temp sender for the sump.

Both far more sensible ideas than mine :roll:

My box spanners arrived today, but the 19mm wouldn't fit in the sump recess, and the 18mm at the other end would have needed a 23mm socket over it to use a torque wrench - my socket set jumps from 22mm to 24mm of course.

So a few minutes with a bench grinder fixed both problems. It's now an easy fit in the sump recess, and a 22mm socket fits snuggly at the other end.
