Squelching sound when turning a travelling slow

Post by timski »

Hi Guys,

This description is probably way to vague to determine what the problem might be but if I could get some ideas to follow up I'd appreciate it. I've noticed this weird intermittent rubbing or squelching sound but could never reproduce it till recently. Now I've figured out how to reproduce it. If I travel as slow as I can in second gear and turn slightly to the right, for example, if I were to change lane, then I get this rubbing sound. In fact it sounds a little bit like a squelching sound and it pulses to a regular rhythm.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Tim.

Damaged tyre ?
Try swapping wheels around front to back ?
I had a tyre that was poorly a few years ago, that made a similar noise to the one you are describing when a walking pace , but couldn't hear it any slower or faster .

Could also be your bushes delaminating from the inner sleeves on your trailing arms, when you turn a corner the load mass shifts, does it worsen when under load

Mine sometimes does this when manoevering slowly, I've just found out its the recently replaced (by a garage) front brake flexi hoses which are a touch too long, they're rubbing on the tyre inner wall

They have to have a little twist in them to prevent that, I can't remember which way though all I know is I did it the wrong way once and they rubbed on the tyre.
