Help!

Post by meggles »

Mods: I know this is a tech post but could you leave it in general for a while PLEASE as this section gets quicker replies. I'm trying to replace crankshaft oil seal (single pulley). I've removed the pulley bolt no problem. However, the pulley will not budge. The puller I have is too big to fit into available space. Any ideas folks please. btw: 1.9 dg. It's a rush request cos van is blocking the drive

Be careful levering it it's thin and you can bend it then it will eat fan belts if it's not true

One option is to put it back and tackle it another day, better that than damage it

So why take it off if it's blocking the drive? wait till you have the replacement then lever it off, two levers both sides + blocks of wood so you don't damage engine.

Pushed it back up the drive. Pulley needs replacement anyway so can't drive it until I have removed it and replaced. I have a hydraulic puller coming on Monday so just hope there's enough clearance. Otherwise engine out job. I've removed rear heat shield and silencer so thats as much as I can do for now. Can't believe how tight this pulley is!

BTW, I thought it would be 30 minute job, tops! Hence wasn't a problem blocking drive for a while.

You don't need all that hassle, just twat it with a rubber hammer flat on its edge , turn the engine over no repeat
Has always worked for me

That was my next thought after using puller. I've given up for the day/weekend now. Don't want to push things too much. Thanks for advice chaps. :ok

I think I may have found out why the buggar was so difficult to remove.

Incidentally, the holes for the rivets which fasten the two parts together had elongated. Strange!!
