Just found a few scotch locks on the blue wire off the alternator and the crimp was in a very poor state, I've cut the scotch locks out and replaced the blue wire back from the crimp to the scotch locks and 14.2 volts has returned to the battery and a little less to the leisure battery

Yup, if the exciter wire isn't working, that would do it :)
