Save up for a new cable? Gosh, that might take some time :lol: I'm on a Spanish island where parts for VW T25s are non-existent and where the mechanics in the garages cringe at the thought of working on such an old vehicle. So all parts must be ordered and long waits anticipated, which makes me try to get away with what I have at hand and fix things myself.

When you say the circplip do you mean the wire that goes through the hole in the end of the cable at the wheel cap end, which I improvised with a nail? The nail is very strong. I can't imagine it will fall out. Is there something special about the proper clips?

It says in this old thread that I need to seal around the cable at the wheel cap to ensure water doesn't get in....

So, off with the hubcap again and a little blob of silicon should do it....do you think?

I've done a write-up of what I did and included photos... http://www.bohemivan.com/2017/04/vw-t25 ... rking.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I discovered this was the problem with mine too.. it works but wobbles a lot..
As a botch I used some cut up loyalty cards and tyrips... worked briefly but back to wobbly now.. but at least it works..

I have to eat my own words now as brown packaging tape on top of some glue seems to be working. Also, the main problem was at the other end of the cable at the wheel...now fixed. I've bought myself some time at least.

Did you check if the inside of the cable rotates as you drive? Undo the dashboard and position the disconnected cable so you can watch the inside of it as you drive slowly a few meters. If it rotates smoothly then it's a problem at the dashboard end. If not then the cable might be worn at the wheel end and it might be slipping in the bearing cap. Take a look through this to see what I did http://www.bohemivan.com/2017/04/vw-t25 ... rking.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I've included a photo of the bearing cap.
