Spigot bearing removal

Post by nonny112i »

Hello there I've had a look on the Wiki about removing the Spigot bearing and noticed you all have taken the flywheel off too remove this.
(does the side wall of the bearing sit up too the flywheel??)
I'm guessing this makes the job a lot easier.
I've been told you don't have too take it off?
I've been trying with a oil seal puller which has now left me with no side wall of the race and just the sleeve left in there! I now feel really daft as it does seem as if the race does sit up too the flywheel!

It's a 2.1 Dj engine 5spd
Cheers for Any help

You'll need a new set of flywheel bolts.

Just use the angles, they are easy if you push the tool that you are using down through the centre of the flywheel.

lock it with an m8 bolt through hole in case and into one of the holes in flywheel
you need a aquality hex bit in a1/2" drive scocket and I use a 2 foot breaker bar
you can reuse bolts, I do but I just torque to 110Nm as in bentley don't do the stretch setting in haynes.

If it were me I would change oil seal, o ring , felt seal and check end float while you are at it but you don't have to.

Or use the correct flywheel locking tool. Less chance of damaging anything else.

or use an impact gun with a decent hex impact socket, but you'll want to lock the flywheel to tighten them up after so the locking tool is best for that impact gun is blunt instrument unless it's adjustable torque limiting type - I've never managed to tighten to 60Nm plus 90' always wimped out at about 60' it just feels wrong ,but never had one come undone

Soo... I now have one Chewed up Flywheel bolt left holding the flywheel on looks like an old set of bolts were used when the flywheel was last put on .

Any advice on stud extractors etc?

I tried using an impact driver and gun on removal no Joy. And angle ground a notch in the bolt too try and chisel it round.

Could get a picture of how it looks now if it helps?

Cheers for any help

If you have a mig welder weld a nut to the bolt head.
