Replacing diesel engine mounts

Post by Bazibbo »

I've had a 'clutch judder' since buying my 1.6 diesel T25 last year. It's particularly bad when reversing up an incline, so I'm going to replace engine and gearbox mounts to start with. Though I'm not getting any noticeable movement of the gear stick between changes.

Two questions that I can't find answers to...

Firstly, It's written that jacking the engine slightly will let me see where the mounts have become unlaminated - but isn't this relevant to the petrol versions with the flat rubber mounts, not the diesels and if so how do I check to see if the mounts are faulty?

Secondly, I can't find any write up on replacing the diesel mounts. It looks like a 5 minute job, but could it be a nightmare?

Anybody know?

The same principles apply to diesel or petrol. The engine weight compresses the mounts, and you probably won't see if they are becoming detached unless you jack up the engine a bit.

They should be easy enough to change, although it's a long time since I did mine, and I can't remember the finer points.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

Really easy to change, just did mine recently

Do a side at a time, Jack up the engine with a block of wood under the Sump, remove and replace
