1.9 DG WBX Running Problem

Hi, new to the forum and T25 Ownership.

We have had our camper since last year, used it approx 5 times. 1st trip 300 miles it ran perfectly. Used it around town a couple of times then it sat over winter but was regularly run while stationery. On our first trip this year into Wales we got half way and stopped off for lunch, then when we restarted the journey it misbehaved.

Under load in higher gears there was misfiring and no power, dropping into 3rd for a hill or to exit a corner seemed to work, after pulling over it revved fine when not in gear and pulled away fine in 1st and second. I could build the speed up slowly, just seemed to die when pushed harder, as thought the second choke seemed to kill it off.

On the a*** clenching journey home it did the same until after a few 3rd gear higher rev hills it ran perfectly and flew home (as well as you can expect a 2.5 tonne block sapped van too).

Until this week we hadn't used it but decided a trip to work was a good idea.... first sight of a gradient it misfired and chugged again, into 3rd.... nothing, dash lights came on

It eventually restarted and we made it to work.

Suggestions welcomed, don't really know where to start.

I'll check the filters, it also does it on the flat, seems to be when the throttle pedal is pressed too hard in higher gears.

I had a very similar problem due to water in the fuel, matters came to a head after a run down a wet M6. Drained some into a jamjar and could see water under the petrol. Fixed with a new tank.

Anything other than basics like that you will have to wait for the petrol guys as their problems and solutions smack of sorcery!

First off I'd be taking the carb off and cleaning the jets.
Then I'd check the 2nd throttle action by sucking on the pipe to the vacuum actuator and opening the throttle fully... the second butterfly should open as the mechanism allows it to do so.
This will determine if the vacuum operated throttle works.

Thanks, it did feel like when the second choke should open it just died. It will get up to speed eventually if you gently press the go pedal.

Hi, Assuming I can get the van home tonight I am going to try and find the problem.

1st check if there is any water in the tank. Is there an easy way to do this or do I need to remove it?

So it got home, drove ok, got to 55mph as quickly as these things do and cruised nicely, misfired after 4 miles when I tried to accelerate from low speed in third?

have you checked for water in fuel as Marlinowner suggested?
- undo fuel filter (under middle RHS of van behind fuel tank) and drain into clear jar. Look for seperation and debris.

and have you done what Kevtherev suggested?

Thanks, having a proper look today, tank looks new and pipe work looks good. I have two filters, one on drivers side and one on passenger, is this correct?

Assuming yours is RHD, the one on the passenger side should be a non return valve.
