Engine Overhaul

Post by AlandAnn »

My VW 1.9 wbx is leaking like a sieve, and the mechanic says my best option is to replace all the gaskets;

How much and where would any of you experts recommend I go?

I'm in Kilmarnock so would prefer to drive in drop her off and pick her up when she's done.

thanks

Spookily I just palleted up a rebuilt WBX (DJ) to send to Kilmarnock tomorrow! And we just popped the heads back on a DG water jacket reseal job, refitting engine tomorrow. We could do it for you, but we're a long way to drive with leaks, and booked up til mid July. Maybe an exchange engine would be an easier way, as your local garages may not recognise the potential pitfalls of stripping a WBX.

I'd be happier with a replacement engine.... How much to drive down drop off and return? my Mrs likes to travel.

The price depends on the engine, plus any other work necessary (cooling system, clutch, exhaust, fuel system etc). From around £1250 for a checked and repaired/resealed and tested engine, to £3500+ for a fully reconditioned DJ.
