Spins over ok but if it doesn't fire straight away I think the diesel washes the oil off the bores & thats likely the only thing giving a good seal, due to the worn bores.
I might be talking total nonsense, but its the only scenario I can think of.
The AAZ needs totally stripping, so anything worn out of spec can be replaced.
Got a feeling there will be an expensive parts list ahead

JX cold start issue

Post by clift_d »

You probably know this already, but compression test ideally should be carried out with the engine already warm, i.e. oil at 30°. Specified pressure should be 34 bar (493 psi), wear limit is 28 bar (406 psi), and differential between cylinders should be no more than 5 bar (72 psi).

are you priming the pump with the ignition on..
Have you tried using a heat gun to heat the inlet air?
I dont think, so I'm not[do I exist?]

I'd been on a good run (to borrow an injector socket) before testing the compression so the engine was nice & warm, but thanks for the thought.

I can't squeeze the primer, as its always full, so don't think there is an issue with air in the pump anymore. Its the same with power on or off.

Heating the inlet (air temperature ) idea is to help with cold starting ( Harrymann s idea )
My daughter has to cycle the glow plugs 3 times if the air temperature is around 8 deg c but only once if it's above 14 c !!
