4 speed gearshift wear.

Post by bigbadbob76 »

I've been reading the wiki on 4 speed gearshift overhaul and from the animated view of the shift box it looks like neutral is between 3rd and 4th rather than being in the middle of the H.
Mine is like this and I feel a spring between N and 1st/2nd but very little spring between N and 3rd/4th.
I always assumed it was worn and/or needed adjustment. But if that's normal I won't touch it.
Can anyone confirm this?
Cheers.

the spacer ( VW set dimension) you adjust it with makes neutral sit by 3/4th gate ( as pic shows) it's not in the middle as you may expect.

I guess its to stop you accidently putting it into 1st/2nd while at speed which you may do if it were biased that way.

My pictures btw animated by Ralph (Covkid) :D

Thanks Itchy.
That's the pics I was looking at.
Good to know it's normal, I've adjusted it before as was struggling to get first, best selection of all gears is with neutral as you describe.
I'll leave it alone. :D
