Re: WHAT CARB???
Your solex carb is correct for a t3 with the DF engine fitted it sounds like your engine has been replaced, the distributors are different between the DF and DG engines, it's not really worth the expense of fitting the pierburg carb without the correct distributor.

Re: WHAT CARB???
Cheers Paul, Don't know if you have connected the dots and realize who i am? You've given me a lot of advice on the WBX Engine FB page.
I'm at work and they don't allow access to FB so I've been quiet on there (And the fact i'm at work so don't have any questions to ask regarding my rebuild
)
I think its a DG?? whats the easiest way to tell between a DG and a DF
If mine is a DG will this carb not work as well? am i best going back to the 2E3 (original for DG??)
Only 2 more weeks to go before i'm back home and can continue with my rebuild (I should start a thread really!)

Re: WHAT CARB???
its very unlikely anyone has fitted a DF carb to DG, it would mean a different inlet manifold, different water pipes and wiring.
the only real way is to look at the engine number and the head part numbers ( df and dg heads are different)

Re: WHAT CARB???
F**K
So my DG rebuild might actually be a DF rebuild!
Are the bottoms ends the same?
is there part numbers stamped on the heads?

Re: WHAT CARB???
engine number

DG heads, note large inlet ports compared to a DF gasket on the left

DG/DJ head part number, early DG same but no c suffix.

Re: WHAT CARB???
Ok, so ive sweet talked my missus to take some pictures while im away, (that doesnt sound too dirty does it!!)
Only the heads are at home so will be able to tell what they are at least,
the case is away at the machine shop to be measured and cleaned so wont know that part number until im home (am i right in thinking the bottom end case is the same anyways?)
I would like my rebuild to be a DG, so could i use the unknown case thats at the machine shop (assuming they are the same) and bolt on DG heads
Then i would need to look at some sort of carb upgrade or a 2E3?
Would this then be a DG spec engine??

Re: WHAT CARB???
Slow down
no point exploring possabilities until you know what you have
ask the machine shop what the case code is
its moulded in by the push rod tube holes
late DG/DJ case with B suffix

Ah yes I remember now, you are the one who starts a new thread with every new thought making it a challenge to remember what was said before

looking back at your pics I'm pretty sure it's a DG with a late case, your van was probably origionally a DF.

it's deffo a late case I can see that.
yes inlet manufold is different I already said that.
Early cooling system, not familiar with whats needed to swap DF carb to DJ, not the same as smiffo's thread above.
get the pics and vid up you put of fb so folks here can help you.

Re: WHAT CARB???
just read you thread Smiffo,
My out come is Itchyfeet has had his involvement on keeping so many of these beloved vans on the road and kept working!
So thank you itchyfeet
your future input and patience is greatly appreciated
That Video i put on FB is of a different engine (the knock knock block) Although all engine ancillaries are the same ones
the original engine (the one that came fitted in the van when i brought it anyways) is the one im currently rebuilding
I work 4 weeks away 4 weeks home so i spend most of my time away making sure i have all the bits to do whatever i plan on doing when im home
So making a list of what bits i have/need to rebuild my engine to DG spec
im still waiting for Machine shop to confirm Engine case no. but i think its going to come back as being a DG, along with my DG heads im almost there
as for my carb set up (manifold pancake carb etc.) this looks to be DF? so in that respect im going to be following the same route as smiffo?
