Petrol Tank Replacement.. The Shopping list

Post by crazyhorse »

Hi all,

As the weather is getting warmer I have decided to replace my rusty tank and all pipes related. Whilst the tanks out I plan to underseal.

Now I have read the wiki over and over and know the procedure off by heart. But Im confused what pipes to get.

So far the shopping list I have is this....

Fuel tank - T3 Late
Rustoluem (to Paint the tank - a nice yellow color maybe)
Fuel Tank Breather Grommet - T3 All 2WD x 3
Fuel Tank Breather Balance Pipe - T3 All 2WD
Fuel Tank Filler Grommet - Late (48mm)
Metal Ring - T3 / Fuel Filler Neck / Stainless With Screws

Which pipes and how much do i need??
Clips?? Which ones to get??
Anything else missing on my shopping list??

Thanks all

New seal for the level sender.
Rubber pads for the under brackets, if required (often missing).
Brake pipe clip above tank that's usually broken.

Usually a metre of 5.5mm fuel hose will cover the breather hoses.

Check the fuel tank sender earth connection while your there as well.

Just about to get the van back from the great Jim Painter.

One of the first jobs...

Doing this..

I have all the bits listed above, quick question, I presume I need to get new 12mm clips, if so how many.

Also one last question.. well 2. The new tank came with a seal, is that no good, or do I need to buy another one??

And finally do I need to get Polyamide Tube and sleeves?? Do I need these or will the 5.5mm hose do?? looking at pics the tube fits into the hose. So sorry If I sound obtuse here
