Heater Blower Help

I am trying to replace my heater blower, Looked at all the info on the Wiki pages however I have the dah out and have been faced with this?

No clips, looks like it is glues shut. Whats the best way to get in to the box?

Quite a lot are glue. You will have to split the two halves. Mine was not glued all round just dabs of glue. Find a place you can get a Stanley knife in then cut along the seam whilst pricing the two halves apart.

A sharp wood chisel on those tabs, give the chisel a whack to split the tabs apart, you will need clips to join the two halves together again. Brickwerks for the clips.

Or as most do, cable ties.

I carved off the tabs with a sharp knife, the tabs are the only places it was glued shut. There are tabs round the front edge as well, inaccessible without removing the whole heater box. Which will bring you to the joys engendered by the fact the a couple of the securing screws go through the front panel of the van, just above the radiator, and have sat in a corrosive atmosphere for the life of the van. Patience, plus gas and a well fitting screwdriver.

If you really want to go to town, you might find that the foam strips which provide internal sealing, are showing their age. BW sell a foam seal replacement kit. Check for signs of leaking on the heater matrix, and get rid of all the leaf bits and dead flies.

Don't bother with the clips it, it's lasted 25 years like it, will you be doing it 25 years from now?

The clips are to avoid having to glue it together again. As Cov Kid has said, drill pairs of holes and cable ties are an option.

I will tackle it with some sharp objects and use cable ties to refix.

Wish me luck....I quite enjoyed having 5 fingers on each hand...Oohhhh well

Also will have to remove the whole unit or can I do it in situ??

I did mine in situ pryzing the back ones off.
Hense the glue back on you can't fasten at the back any other way unless you remove it.
