Strap on man said to soak my end in vinegar to dissolve build up

I've never tried that, does it sting?

I've used portasol gas irons for years, to avoid splutter don't run it at full blast, half way is fine.
you can also put it in a jar to keep the wind off it when you're not actually soldering.
Just don't touch the jar for a while afterwards, it gets effin hot.
