Roof holes size for a high top

Post by ArvonW »

Hi All,

I removed my Viking roof yesteday and will be putting a hightop on instead.

the hole in the roof seems little small but i would like to get some opinions.

it runs from just behind the seats at the front and ends in line with the edge of the rock n roll bed.

in peoples opinion should i leave it ias it is or should i make the hole bigger? Maybe back to the next strength bar.

I am new to this so could do with some good advice, mainly around (if i did make the hole bigger) how to strengthen the edge of the holes without using a metal frame as there is now.

hi
nice to see someone noticing the roof X members and their function, think about the hi top and the use your putting it to ... ie bed up there or not, then decide IF you need more room , if you do then cut back to the X member and make good the edges,

Thx for the reply, we are defo putting a double bed up there, i was just wondering if most people would go that far back, i have been looking at pics on the net and modt seem to just have the hole around the size mine is currently, i see these slide out beds too.

My idea would be to rivet 3 wood struts, 1 each side running the length and one down the middle, then screw a 12 to 15mm sheet to thise for the bed base, if i needed more bed soace then i would make a removable piece to slot on the end covering part of the hole.

Just ideas currently.
I would drive it like I stole it but.........
