Cheap charger.

Post by bigbadbob76 »

Anyone got one of these?

I just got one off the bay to use as a built in charger, it does the bulk charge and absorbtion charge just fine but when it should go to float charge it turns off for a few seconds then comes back on at 15v/9A for a second, surely this is not their idea of float charging?

Some chargers use a pulse charge every so often as a maintenance charge rather than a constant voltage low amperage charge. Pulse charging is better for the battery. Keep an eye on it and see how often it pulses.

Yeah, I thought it might be doing that but it's hitting the battery with 15v/9A every few seconds.
Doesn't sound too healthy to me. Now and again would be ok but it's a bit too often for comfort, don't want to ruin my new AGM battery.
The "manual" says the charger should float at 13.7v.
