Just picked it up after an MOT pass, they explained it was tricky sorting the emissions because as soon at the emission screw was tweaked the idle immediately began to fall off. The van itself runs really well, loads of power (for a 1.9 that is).
Anyway, at least it is sorted, I appreciate the mixture can be altered without an emissions tester, but if you have access to one it makes the job a lot easier. I will see how it goes in the coming weeks, I don't use it much in the winter months however time will tell in terms of how it runs and the MPG.
Once again, many thanks for the comprehensive responses, the forum at its best as ever.

I doubt the mpg will be affected, it's an idle mixture adjustment.Elsaetka wrote:Just picked it up after an MOT pass, they explained it was tricky sorting the emissions because as soon at the emission screw was tweaked the idle immediately began to fall off. The main jet is set in stone.
Driving style is the only mpg adjuster.

Re: MOT Fail Emissions Advice
I have it back with a pass.
Technician explained that setting the mixture was tricky in the sense that as soon as he turned the screw the revs immediately fell off, he was obviously concerned that it continued to run well after a tweak.
Anyway it's running great, I will keep an eye on it in the coming weeks, it's not going far in the winter.
Thanks again for the advice, using an accurate emissions tester is definitely the best way.
