Re: Which aux belt - 1.6jx
do you have one belt or two belt system? 65A or 90A alternator?

The belt size is on your existing belt.Assuming you have one.Do you have a 65 or 90 amp alternator.Single or double belt crank pulley.?

Single pulley. Power steering belt in the way for two I presume?
I'll look at the alternator in the light tomorrow. Thanks.

If you are saying you have PS then it's a double pulley

Re: Which aux belt - 1.6jx
Never simple is it? I've read off the Regulator code, is that enough to identify which alternator I have? Took some pics, could anyone enlighten me?

Also, the pulleys are not very well aligned. Seems likely that this is going to cause premature wear? How can I line them up, or are they supposed to be like this:

Re: Which aux belt - 1.6jx
then you need 10x875 or 10x910
I see 10x763 on the ps belt.
Push the alternator down, get a 10mm rope and route where the belt should be. Mark where the end gets around and measure it.
If it is shorter than 875mm then you need a 10x875 belt, if it is longer, then 10x910. I assume it is a 90A alt so you will need a 910 belt, but measure it!
The pulleys are not in line, usually the aftermarket water pumps thickness is not exactly in spec as it does not matter on the new pk belt setups on 1.9 engines and they use the same casting. You are lucky as the water pump pulley sits in (as it looks from the pic) so you can shim the pulley to get into line. Easiest with the shims of the old two belt setup.

Re: Which aux belt - 1.6jx
Thanks ZsZ.
Just found the old belt wrapped around the power steering pump. Reads 10A0900C, which I guess means 10mm x 900mm.
Can I just use washers to shim out the water pump pulley, or is it something special?
Cheers

Re: Which aux belt - 1.6jx

Yes 10x900 - or you can use 10x910 as the ones that BW sells depends on the alternator pulley and the tensioner. I say they will fit.
I think you can use regular (M8 or M6 as the bolt, dont remember) washers at the bolts. Then all the tangential friction forces are taken by the bolts as shear force, but I think they can hold.

Re: Which aux belt - 1.6jx
Thanks for the support, I hope I can put something back in at some point!
After faffing around trying to split the power steering pulley, I discovered it much easier to roll the power steering belt off the main pulley. This then gave me access to put the new 900 belt on. Do old belts stretch? The alternator was previously maxed out adjustment wise, and I had to knock it right down to get a new belt to fit!
I did lose some coolant (as steam) when the engine got a little warm, should I need to run through the full bleed procedure?
Thanks

Re: Which aux belt - 1.6jx

Not really strech, but as the V surface wear away the belt sits more close to the centre line on the pulley. So it is normal, that is why you need to check the belt tension regularly (~10000kms)Gary. wrote: Do old belts stretch? Small amounts of coolant loss not bring the need to a full bleed. Just top up the coolant when cold and the system will self bleed from the second coolant tank behind the licence plate.
