I just disconnected the old fluorescent electronics and wired in a 300mm strip of warm white LED strip, stuck directly onto the old tube & re-fitted the diffuser.

Works for me and did not cost a penny as the strip was left over from a kitchen wiring job

Aye, got to be nuts to pay a fortune for LED replacements for flourescent when they're so cheap now. I buy 100 LEDs at a time or a even a reel and its rarely much more than a few quid.

I highly recommend these 12v Warm white, activated with a push button, LED light.

I found it has two brightness settings.

I'm in the process of reworking my lights. I will put 4 in the main area and one in the engine bay.

I like my tubes. Never had much luck with LEDS. The power saving is irrelevant as they are about half of the wattage of tubes which means I can leave them on continuously for for four weeks instead of two. Big deal. In the real world unless you are parked up for months in one place then it makes no difference. Plus the tubes are cheap as chips so it actually becomes both costly and pointless to replace them!

If you do mostly off-grid camping as I do, LED lights are a no-brainer. Most LED lights consume milliamps, this is why much of the world has adopted them - unless you've discovered something we don't know ;)

They also don't attract the mozzies like tubes do. Would agree if you were buying replacement LED lighting from major retailers - most charge WAY too much.

Roughly £10 for 1000 at present from fleabay. What are tubes - £3 each?

My tubes are 13watts. LEDs are usually around half that therefore the battery will last twice as long and no longer using LEDs over tubes. My point is that the tubes run the batteries down so slowly that having twice the time is of no real benefit to most, especially of you are moving around and so continually charging your leisure battery between stops.

It's a bit like mobile phone companies getting you to change to a more costly contract because you can get 10000 free texts instead of 500. It looks good but if you only send 100, you pay for something you don't need.....if you see what I mean!

At 13 watts thats going to be around a 1amp draw on your battery. Not something I could live with to be honest. In fact I'm not even sure why we're debating this one. The maths says it all. :rofl

13watts roughly equals 1amp draw on your battery so 110 amphour battery will last for 55 days if the light is on for two hours a night and the battery is never charged. Who is ever likely to do that? I rest my case!

More to the point, it is probably the smallest draw on your battery by far compared to anything else you might use such as heater, radio, etc. LEDs are still 5-6watts!
