1989 1.6 JX with 5 speed- clutch replacement cost?
Hello!
Anyone have a general idea of what a clutch replacement would run on a JX with the 5 speed? Mine is slipping badly when warmed up...
Thanks in advance!!

Are doing it or farming it out? I did mine last year and from memory it was peanuts by todays standards at around £100 tops for the bits. But I do have a mate who barters help on a mutually beneficial basis. Lonely job on your own.

Would love to tackle it myself but don't have off-street parking... unless someone wants to rent me a hand and a parking spot

Otherwise will have to farm it out.. depending on estimated cost will further pursue DIY options!
Thanks!

Re: 1989 1.6 JX with 5 speed- clutch replacement cost?
Hi,
I had mine done a few months ago. All up it was around the £580 mark from memory (incl. Vat ,labour and parts). This included more work than just a replacement clutch, some of which might be worth doing while the gearbox is off i.e crank seal . On mine the input shaft bearing on the gearbox failed, and the knock on effect took out the seal /crank seal and messed up the end of the input shaft where it had been 'Flapping around'(the garage sourced a new one) They also fitted a new oil thrower on the bell housing gearbox end which was supplied via Aiden. All up obviously more expensive than a straight clutch change but might give you an idea. Hope it helps. Dan

If I recall correctly, the job is generally taken as needing 3 to 4 hours labour to complete, depending on knowledge and issues encountered.

Ok, booked a date with the Camper Shack to get this done!
Was chatting with them and realised a few things here!
Where is my dipstick??
Oh, there it is! Wait s minute thats not the original engine!
So what engine is it? I can't easily get underneath to see the block stamp, can anyone tell from these pictures? A 1.9 would be a nice surprise!

Hi Andrew, Now I've seen the pics it does look very much like you have an AAZ. The LDA (on top of the injection pump) is rubbing on the engine lid, so you might want to fit one of these...
https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/t3-parts/e ... cover.html
and your throttle cable pulls at an angle due to a dodgy bent arm, so this will fix that...
https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/t3-parts/e ... evers.html
There's no boost pressure hose to the LDA (from the inlet manifold), so you won't be getting any additional fuelling when on boost, so it will lack power.
If you wanted to give it a bit more oomph (after getting the LDA working), you could also fit one of these...
https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/t3-parts/e ... t-pin.html
There are a few other things I've noted from the pics:
Is that a remote oil cooler I see fitted in addition to the standard water cooled/heated unit? It's not clear but there looks to be a banjo fitting and two hoses that are non-standard.
The metal cover thing above the rocker cover with unused fastening tabs on - what's that? Airbox? Heatshield? Welded up thing that does something else? It certainly shouldn't be there!
A few other things (that I can see in pics) such as fuel hoses, clips, wiring to pump etc that need looking at, but we can discuss them later.
There's no telling what I'll find underneath...
(eg turbo oil return to block or sump...?)
But you do have an AAZ

Awesome!
Yeah, will be good to have you check out the rest of the conversion, sounds like definitely some things to address!
I will start with this air filter!!
Cool a JR air filter!
AHHHH!!
Also needs a new lid gasket.... put it on the list.

Yes, I am not sure what that big welded up box is! I will need to trace the hoses.. It is not really attached at all and rubs on other hoses.. Certainly not a factory looking piece.
