Fuel filler neck replacement

Did this today on a van, took some pics to share

It seems there are still vans out there that need this replaced.

easier to take the front wheel off but not necessary.


clip missing and rubber perished



rag in filler to stop dirt going in and three screws out



rotate the plastic moulding to remove





new rubber, clip ( don't tighten yet) and backing plate (I reused the backing plate after some cleaning and painting)



plastic moulding back and rotate



fit screws and tighten clip



changed the outer expansion hoses too while I was at it, inner hoses are much harder to get to and look ok for now so I left them.





no more fuel smell

Ha! This made me smile. Can't quite decide if it's deliberate, ironic, or innocent, but there's thousands of the bloody things - most vans I see, actually. Welcome to my world (of filth, pain and rust)! It's a goto solution for any van that's not quite running right, it's very often due to water in the fuel, for this exact fault.

Talking of pics - your photos looks a little different to my setup..

I'm sure I had a metal ring on the filler neck that the outer metal ring in picture 2 screwed to.
Basically the screws went through the outer metal ring, through the filler neck bit, and then into another metal ring that clamped it all together.
Not sure if it was originally like that, but that was how the Brickwerks bits came.

I did it at the same time as my carb, steel pipes and new tank - this was the little bit I didn't capture in pics

There is a version that does not have the rubber neck and steel ring set up, it has a restriction that holds the garage petrol pump nozzle,used on vehicles destined for the USA.
