Headlights stuck on full beam
Hi...Have a t25, 1983, Aircooled firebus. My headlights are stuck on full beam. When I flick the controller arm it just stays on full beam. When I looked at the fuses...number 5 fuse was blown.
Replaced fuse and no difference. Still stuck on full beam.
Any ideas

I assume that this is just when the headlight switch is on?
Are high beams definitely on - or is it just the tell-tale light that is on?

How do.
Yes, was only when lights were switched on.
Have just had some dinner....went out to have a tinker...working fine now!!!
I have a sneaky suspicion that this wont be the end of this.

How do.
As I thought...turned on the lights and stuck on main beam this morning. Got to work . If the engine isnt running then lights dip and go to full beam fine. Start the engine and it just locks on full beam. Wierd.
Any ideas?

Do you think it could be a faulty relay?
When the engine is running it is failing?
Where would the relay be?

Re: Headlights stuck on full beam
The high beam switch has two circuits - one for the high beam 'flash' that should work with ignition off (but won't hold the high beam on - it's just on while the switch is pulled); the other circuit is only live when the ignition switch is on and it's that circuit that holds the high beam on; its very possible that it is the switch that is at fault - that's where I would start the investigation!

Re: Headlights stuck on full beam
Thats great. Did not know that.
The high beam works if you pull the lever with engine off...just flashes. This seems fine.
Will have a look at switch. You mean the actual bit at the end of the arm. Take off the plastic cowling round steering coloumn?

Re: Headlights stuck on full beam
Could be the "X" relay .
It only allows the headlights to work when the ignition is on .

Thanks a lot for your help.
I took switch off, cleaned contacts, sprayed with WD40....seems to be working fine now.
Fingers crossed...and a merry christmas to you all. ☺

Pleased you got it sorted. Half way through upgrading my wiring to my headlights, I managed to get mine to do this. Never worked out what it was. But I pit it down to dirty/ corroded connections.
