More progress..
The whole inlet and exhaust system is now offered up and sealed with exhaust compound..

Those heat risers..

Now I can fit the rhs inner tin..2 screws on outside only for the moment..

and the lhs just fits into place..

a final coat of 'make shiny paint'....

HEAVY ENGINE PORN ALERT
The squeamish may look away.. as we are going to talk...
Wongly engine flaps.......

These hideous devices are all part of the cold starting assist system..
powered by a thermostatic bellows, cable, pulley and big spring..

In the beetle and cal days we would lock open the slots and remove the bellows..
why.. because they had a nasty habit of jamming in the cold position..
even worse on CT,s and Type 4 (2 litre blocks)..
However the left hand flap (oil cooler side does divide the air.. partly to the cylinders, and partly to the oil cooler..

So I'm going to fit this, fixed as a deflector.. I had noticed that the oil cooler entrance was a bit blocked by debris..
Drill, bolt and lock in place on the RHS tin..

This has the advantage that I can now secure the dipstick tube..

Now I silicone mastic the turbine to the top tins..

Making every thing air tight.
I've glued the HT lead clips onto the tinware..

Let cure and dry...

Work tomorrow....
