HI All,
Myself and wifey went away in our van last weekend, we froze our nadgers off.
We have a viking roof and it was drafty as hell and the condensation build up soaked the duvet down the bottom end.
I am thinking about swapping the viking roof for a high top with a double bed in it.
my question is:
what do people think of the pros and cons of doing this?

High tops are definitely warmer in winter but if you want a double bed up there forget about getting under height barriers

not overly bothered about barriers and not getting under them, but good point, just want it to be usable in the winter more so, thx for the comments so far guys.

No brainer
High top all day.
Winter/cold weather camping made easy.
No noise, No condensation, No faff.
Warm and dry.

In cold weather, the best way to reduce condensation and keep warm is by pumping heat in. Either with a good electric heater or a Propex or similar. Insulation won't help a lot unless there's warmth inside the cab.

If it's its the two of you I'd definitely say high top. Great storage, permanent headroom and warm. If you've got older kids, I'd go for the Viking

I've got a Viking, and I solved the problem by having a table made that fits the hole in the roof. It means I can pop the top and use it for storage, but at night I can place the table into the hole, pull the side cushion over it for extra insulation, and then drop the hinged flap down to seal the hole up completely. It leaves a much smaller space to heat, and is at least as warm as a tin top. I screwed one of those table sockets to the underside and it makes a good sized table.

Ok, so I have bought a high top roof off eBay. Cost me £80.
Has anyone here got experience of removing a Viking roof completely.
Advice and gotchas to look out for.
Has anyone got experience of fitting s high top, do I need to cut anymore roof away or will the existing hole be enough.
What are high tops secured with, is it something I can attempt myself or would you advise taking it somewhere to be done.

Easy to do. But just do piece. Lots of rivets to drill out. Will need help lifting on and off the van. Be sure to take pics before so you can sell it.
